Hui Lau Shan: Desserts Featuring Philippines’ Mango Pride

North people can finally enjoy the sweet and tropical goodness of Hui Lau Shan’s signature drinks and desserts as they opened their third Philippine branch yesterday, June 8! Prior to this, they have already launched their pioneer branch in SM Megamall last March, followed by their Greenhills Promenade branch two months after. The two mentioned branches are both inline stores, but their SM North EDSA branch sports a more on-the-go vibe since it’s an island store type, situated just across SM Hypermarket (Very accessible and eye-catching, if you ask me!).

Hui Lau Shan is a very famous brand in Hong Kong, with a store in practically every couple of hundred meters! It was said that even if it’s below 15 degrees Celcius, people still line up to enjoy these sweet treats. It’s nice to note that they use Philippine carabao mangoes, too!

A visit to Hui Lau Shan would not be complete without trying out their A-Series, so I opted to try their Mango and Aloe Jelly in Mango Juice (Php 95 for 18 oz).

Indeed, the mango juice and mango toppings were really fresh and naturally sweet! You won’t have a hard time enjoying it as it is as refreshing as can be, and the aloe jelly added a nice contrast to the texture of the drink. It doesn’t have a strong taste, but it complements the drink well! I heard their Mango and Pomelo with Sago is also really good, so I’m definitely coming back for that.

Aside from their signature mango drinks, they also have plenty of other mango dessert and snack options that will surely make you excited to try them all!

We were able to sample their Mango Mochi (Php 90 for 3 pcs), which are mango flavored glutinous rice balls sprinkled with desiccated coconut and filled with a fresh mango filling. WE LOVED IT! The mochi itself was soft and it somewhat melts in your mouth as you bite into it, and you’d be surprised that 3 pcs might not be enough!

We also got to try their Mango Pancake (Php 140), which are crepes filled with luscious cream and, you guessed it, fresh mangoes! The cream filling may be a bit heavy on the tummy, so make sure you have this for sharing.

If you’re not sure what to get, you may opt for their Mango Romance (Php 170), which is basically a sampler of all things mango — mango mochi, mango chewy ball, and mango crystal jelly! This can also be shared, and is a nice treat to end your meal with.

Aside from the ones I have already mentioned, they also let us sample their newest creation, the Cheesy Milk Series! This one’s only available here in the Philippines, and will probably make milk tea lovers consider trying out Hui Lau Shan, too.

The entire series consists of 9 drinks: 3 fruit drinks and 6 tea drinks.
✅ Avocado Cheesy Milk (Php 140)
✅ Mango Cheesy Milk (Php 140)
✅ Watermelon Cheesy Milk (Php 140)
✅ Green Tea Cheesy Milk (Php 100)
✅ Oolong Tea Cheesy Milk (Php 100)
✅ Mango Green Tea Cheesy Milk (Php 120)
✅ Guyabano Oolong Tea Cheesy Milk (Php 120)
✅ Mixed Fruit Green Tea Cheesy Milk (Php 130)
✅ Strawberry Lychee Oolong Tea Cheesy Milk (Php 130)

I have only tried two of these. First is the Avocado Cheesy Milk, which is a rich avocado shake topped with the cheesy milk. The taste slight saltiness of the cheesy milk married with the rich and thick avocado shake made us reach the cup for a second sip right away! I hope they can put in more of the cheesy milk as it runs out quickly.

The other drink I got to taste from the series is the Green Tea Cheesy Milk, and I liked how it had a very crisp and clean taste, as the tea was well-brewed. The cheesy milk boosted the taste of the tea even more, giving a balanced creaminess to it, similar to what you’d get in a regular milk tea! I feel less guilty even after downing a whole cup, though.

Ultimately, Hui Lau Shan is definitely the #1 spot to get your mango fix, but I’m equally excited that they went out of their comfort zone and came up with the Cheesy Milk series. After all, who doesn’t need a cold drink in this country’s heat?

Hui Lau Shan has branches in G/F SM City North EDSA The Block, 4/F Atrium in SM Megamall, and 2/F Greenhills Promenade.
