A Second Look: Weekend Platters from Lucky Chan Home Kitchen
You’ve probably read Lucky Chan’s story here on my blog previously. The story on how they were able to ride the waves and stayed flexible amidst the challenges that struck their business. The team behind Lucky Chan thought it might be a good idea to be able to still give their customers a chance to taste scrumptious food without breaking a sweat. As weekends are generally meant for relaxation for most of us, they decided to offer us Ready to Eat Weekend Platters, Lucky Chan Home Kitchen’s latest offering, that are meant to be enjoyed by the whole family!
Since they’ve started a couple of months ago, they have already exceeded 700 frozen meals and 300 cooked platters. This number is promising, and as I was told, their kitchen have been operating at full capacity to satisfy our bellies. Let’s continue to show them our love, shall we?
THE FOOD AND VERDICT
On two separate weekends, I was able to order two different platters for me and my mom to enjoy. Since we cannot eat out yet, I see to it that we atry something new at least once a week. Below are two of the platters we have tried so far, and the stories behind the cute names they possess:
THE OLYMPIG (Php 580)
Sir TJ has been enjoying his grandmother’s cooking as he grew up. One of her heritage recipes is her Braised Pork, which she has passed on to the younger generations. This is the same recipe Lucky Chan is sharing with us now. And it is named so because the recipe has been running for so long –as if the recipe has been running an olympig (olympic) race. Witty, right?
The Olympig consists of braised pork belly, 8-minute eggs, and flavored rice. This dish is best eaten when the rice and pork is very hot, so make sure to reheat it when you get it before digging in! The braised pork really does melt in your mouth, and the flavored rice is so tasty it’s a viand on its own. The eggs were good, but I personally prefer the yolks to be a bit jelly-like, versus the one they serve that borders on hard-boiled egg already. Nonetheless, anything with egg is a sure winner! But I have to warn you, this dish is quite sinful… No regrets though! So, so good!
MISS YOU PIG TIME (Php 600)
This is one of the weekend platters Lucky Chan came up with that pays homage to their roots. It’s a throwback to one of their specialties (along with Roast Duck and Lechon Macau) when they still had the physical store of Lucky Chan, hence the name. Tender BBQ pork belly (a.k.a. pork asado), BBQ rice, and two runny fried eggs – this is what I miss from Lucky Chan, and more. Who knew eating asado with eggs is a good idea?
Miss You Pig Time is definitely nostalgic if you’re a Lucky Chan fan. For me, they perfectly locked in the moisture on each slice of pork. Eating a spoonful of the BBQ rice, asado, and egg in one bite will definitely make you smile. The flavors dances on your tongue, and the flavorful and tender asado (which is the star of the show) is definitely one for the books. Yum!
OTHER TIPS AND INFORMATION
The slots are very limited and run out fast since their kitchen still has a limited capacity. So you better reserve early if you want to get a slot for the weekend, okay? I was told the slots run out as early as Wednesday.
They used to offer the platters only on Sundays. But starting October 24, they will start offering these on Saturdays AND Sundays! That gives you more chances to try out their weekend platters, which changes their menu weekly.
Hurry and message them to book your slots now!
