Cinnamon Rolls From Mad Dough Bakery: Finger-Licking, Soft and Tasty
I have always heard of people craving for cinnamon rolls whenever they pass by this certain store selling them at the mall. But I never understood why. To me, the smell is quite overwhelming, and I have always thought cinnamon rolls were too heavy and too dense. I also do not like raisins on my bread or on anything else, so I stayed away from this… Until now. The cinnamon rolls from Mad Dough Bakery actually made me change my perception — and for the better.
THE STORY
Mad Dough Bakery has been around for 5 years already. Its owner, Ms. Sabrina, took a baking degree after college, and while she was looking for a job, she decided to apply what she learned from baking school and sold pastries to her friends and family. Even as she landed a sales job, she continued to sell her homemade pastries. Pre-COVID, she joins bazaars on weekends, and her sold out pastries speaks volumes on how tasty her sweet treats are.
Insider scoop: Curious on why she named her shop Mad Dough Bakery? Ms. Sabrina considers baking as an outlet whenever she’s frustrated at work or in life. Don’t get her wrong though, she absolutely loves baking for her clients! Making cookie dough or cupcake dough was just an easy distraction so she can cool off her head.
THE FOOD
Mad Dough Bakery has a lot to offer. Their earlier offerings (which also happens to be Ms. Sabrina’s favorite) include Brookies, a love child of a Brownie and a Cookie shaped into a mini cupcake. Now that they’re baking and shipping from their home, their products include their bestselling 6-oz cookies, croissants, and the newest addition to the menu: Cinnamon Rolls.
The Cinnamon Rolls From Mad Dough Bakery sells for Php 250 for 4 pcs, and Php 480 for 8 pcs. It comes in an eco-friendly, compostable packaging, so those who want to veer away from plastic use will definitely adore how they store their items. Even the container for the cream cheese frosting is compostable, too! How cool is that?
THE VERDICT
Apologies to raisin lovers, but I never liked raisins on anything. This is why I liked Mad Dough’s Cinnamon Rolls at first bite because there were no raisins in sight! Upon opening the box, I was also greeted by a sweet smell, but NOT an overwhelming one. This was another good thing for me, as it wasn’t dizzying. It just smelled like how freshly baked breads smell like. Also, when I took a bite, I was amazed by the softness of the rolls. Each roll keeps you filled, but isn’t too dry or dense to enjoy. The cream cheese frosting was finger-licking too: not too sweet, but had an appealing vanilla scent and flavor that makes it all the more addictive. Make sure to smother each roll with this! (Note: Plus points for packing the frosting separately so it does not get absorbed into the roll too much.)
Despite the success of her home-based business, Ms. Sabrina’s ultimate goal is to be able to open a cozy café or a mobile pastry food truck. But for now, she continues to bake for her clients, one pastry at a time, until she reaches her dream. With the pace she’s at, I’m sure she’ll fulfill this in no time!
