Puff’d Up: Cream Puffs (+ Other Goodies) For A Cause

I have time and time again been proven wrong by the thought that the younger generations have always wanted instant gratification in everything they do. We think they are unable to handle things the way we think things should be “correctly” handled. But what we sometimes forget is that their impulsiveness is also equivalent to these young people having the confidence and the can-do attitude to make things happen – plunging in and just doing it! Such is the inspiring story of two 19-year olds who started their own baking business, despite juggling it with their school work. Puff’d Up is just around two months old, but their products, especially their cream puffs, have already brought smiles to many faces.

THE STORY

Puff’d Up is a home-based baking business owned by 19 year olds Ms. Kyla and Ms. Sandra. Even as students, they’re constantly looking for ways to challenge themselves. Admittedly, they weren’t armed with the greatest baking skills when they initially planned to launched, but it was their perseverance and passion that saw them through. They soon perfected their products, and thought of using it as a tool to give back to the community.

THE FOOD

They realized that entering the baking business is quite hard already considering the tough competition from fellow home bakers and commercial establishments alike. This is why they decided to come up with products that you wouldn’t easily find home bakers selling. The first product they thought of was their Classic Cream Puffs, which they sell at Php 280 for a box of 6 and Php 550 for a box of 12. These cream puffs also helped them come up with their cute brand name, Puff’d Up! Another not-too-common product they have is their Cheese Tarts, retailing at Php 320 for a box of 6 and Php 640 for a box of 12. And like most home-based businesses who want to share something that their family and friends enjoy a lot, they are also offering their version of Chocolate Chip Cookies for only Php 160 for a box of 6 and Php 280 for a box of 12.

THE VERDICT

CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES

A classic! Puff’d Up’s Chocolate Chip Cookies are more on the crunchy side. Each cookie is adorned with lots of chocolate chips, so it’s something chocolate lovers will enjoy! It was a bit on the sweet side, but I’m sure the young ones (yes, I am admitting I’m not that young anymore) would definitely love and enjoy this one. Crunchy cookie lovers would also be delighted with this treat.

CHEESE TARTS

These Cheese Tarts are sweet and savory treats will definitely make you smile! It’s the perfect partner for your afternoon coffee or tea. I love how the flavorful cheese mixture is not too sweet, too. The crust, while it’s not too thick, also holds the tart together pretty well. The torched top is the “icing on top” of it all. Yum!

CLASSIC CREAM PUFFS

I’ve previously mostly steered away from cream puffs, because they are so sinful. Well, I still think they are, but the Classic Cream Puffs from Puff’d Up are so addicting so I didn’t care about the xx pounds I might put on because of these! This one’s may favorite among the three products: and for a good reason. When chilled, the cream is not too sweet, and actually tastes and feels a bit like vanilla ice cream to me.

I also absolutely love puff pastry, so the flaky envelope to the smooth vanilla cream really made me fall head over heels. Even the pastry itself wasn’t too sweet, and I seriously could eat 2-3 puffs in one sitting. Please get the box of 12 because 6 pieces will not be enough if you love cream puffs! Tip: Make sure to refrigerate them right away to maintain its quality.

They also recently launched their cream puffs in Oreo flavor! What a great time to be alive: Cream Puffs + Oreo? Count me in!

If you’re craving for some baked goodies, you should definitely check out the products from Puff’d Up. And while you’re at it, not only will you be able to support these two brilliant young women with their business, you’d also be able to help them raise funds for charity. Talk about multitasking!
