OD Brookie: GoODness of Brownie and Cookie in One Bite
Ah, Overdoughs. Since they first launched their cookies more than a year back, I’ve been an avid supporter of their good food coupled with great advocacy. If you didn’t know yet, a portion of their sales actually supports the deaf scholars of the College of Saint Benilde’s School of the Deaf Education and Applied Studies. So with each purchase, not only do you get to enjoy yummy baked goodies, you also get to do something good!
This quarantine has been quite challenging for them, as with most of the businesses. But despite this, their kitchen has been experimenting non-stop on the treats they could possibly offer us. A couple of months back, they have launched their OD Crinkles, and this was met with much love, too. Now, they were able to come up with a way to recreate their cookie, and fresh from their kitchen, they have now launched the OD Brookie!
THE FOOD
The OD Brookie comes in their iconic black packaging, with the big bold OD printed on it. They currently have it in three sizes: Php 249 for a box of 5, Php 449 for a box of 12, and Php 599 for a box of 16! But when I first tried it, it came as a one big piece of brookie, so I got to decide how big each piece should be. *sinful* They have since changed it to pre-cut pieces.
THE VERDICT
WOW. I can’t believe brookies aren’t more common than they are! Overdoughs’ version consists of the milk chocolate cookie dough on the top part and dark chocolate brownie base. It is then baked to perfection with its generous walnut toppings. Then, they top it with a salted caramel and semi-sweet chocolate drizzle. Drooling yet?
The OD Brookie is the epitome of perfection. I liked how they weren’t too sweet, but had both the goodness of a chewy cookie and a fudgy brownie. Each bite was delightful and the different textures from the cookie and brownie portions, plus the crunch of the walnuts all danced happily inside my mouth. I also liked the balance of flavors in the drizzle: ’twas really well thought of. The mixture of sweet and salty, and the combination of sweet and a little bitterness… Both drizzles have a distinct taste that’s meant to amplify the flavors of the brookie better. Being an absolute fan of their OD Choco Chunk Cookies, I wished there were also huge chunks of chocolate here. Now, that would be heavenly!
You might find the price tag a bit high for pastries. But do take my word for it when I tell you it’s work every peso you’ll spend! Overdoughs has been known for using the choicest ingredients in all of their items. It is great for gifting too, I swear, everyone would definitely love this.
