August’s Fresh From Ben.Oven: Banana Chocolate Chip Cupcakes

If you’re an avid reader of my blog, you had probably read my feature on Ben.Oven last month. I was able to share their story of how they started their business on that post. And as mentioned, monthly or once in every two months, they try to come up with a new item which they call Fresh From Ben.Oven. For this August, they have launched their Banana Chocolate Chip Cupcakes.

And true to their promise of ensuring we only get the best quality of baked goodies with added benefits from its healthy ingredients, they decided to try it out with bananas. Bananas are known for being a good source of vitamin C, dietary fiber and manganese. Bananas are also fat-free, cholesterol-free and sodium-free. Moreover, this is one of the most accessible fruits we have in the Philippines, and it’s even better when it’s incorporated in a pastry or dessert.

THE FOOD AND VERDICT

Ben.Oven’s Banana Chocolate Chip Cupcakes sell for only Php 180 per half dozen. These cupcakes are filled with bananas, semi-sweet chocolate chips, and has lots of almond slices as toppings. One look at it and you would definitely see how fully loaded each cupcake is. At Php 30 a piece, it’s definitely a steal already. As always, it comes in their minimalist white box, a classic yet elegant way of storing these wonderful cupcakes. (And perfect for gifting, too!)

When I opened the box, the sweet smell of chocolate chips and bananas perked me up, and I was eager to take a bite. When I sank my teeth onto a piece of cupcake, the packed yet moist cupcake was enjoined by a slight crunch in the almond slices topping, and a gooey texture from the chocolate chips. Talk about my taste buds dancing with joy! Despite having chocolate chips, they surprisingly weren’t too sweet. Actually, three bites in and I sensed a slight kick of bitterness. When I asked Ms. Bea about it out of curiosity, she revealed a secret ingredient they used. COFFEE! Wow, coffee lovers would definitely love this twist as it gives off a more fragrant aroma, and hopefully gives you the boost you need to kick start your morning. Just one piece can keep you filled, too.

If you’re a banana loaf lover, you’d definitely enjoy these Banana Chocolate Chip Cupcakes, Fresh from Ben.Oven! One thing I also love about this store is that they also embody #supportlocal. They get their ingredients from fellow local sellers, hence, supporting each other’s businesses during this time. A noble thing to do, indeed!

Yum! Try it out soon, okay?

INSIDER TIP

I was told by Ms. Bea that their baked goodies keep their quality intact when they are kept chilled, and I’m glad to say that despite refrigerating the cupcakes, they did not become dry. So don’t worry if your cupcakes arrive slightly cold, they’re kept that way to guarantee the freshness.
