Lucky Chan Home Kitchen: Ready-to-Heat Frozen Home-Cooked Meals

Since April, I have already went back to working in the office. I am working in the retail industry, and during this pandemic, much was needed from us. We had to ensure our customers are getting what they need whenever they go out for a quick grocery run. Work was doubly tiring, and one of my consolations was being able to eat my mom’s home-cooked meals for my baon. But I recently learned Lucky Chan is now transformed into Lucky Chan Home Kitchen, and is serving frozen ready-to-heat home-cooked meals, which could be an alternative baon in case my mom wakes up late, or is unable to prepare my food for the day.

THE STORY

In December 2017, Sir Ivan has started roasting ducks in their home, and shared it with his friends and family. With the overwhelming good reviews, they (Sir Ivan and his friend and business partner, Sir TJ) started selling the roasted meats. Eventually, business went well, and they transferred to Sir TJ’s home garage. (Trivia: Their first oven broke down after roasting 223 roast ducks!) They have since introduced Lechon Macau and Asado as well.

About a year later, their humble business has transformed into a full-blown restaurant located in Tomas Morato, Quezon City, initially named as Twa Pak To. (Trivia: Twa Pak To means big tummy in Fookien.) This initial location wasn’t that viable, and they eventually transferred to Fisher Mall in Quezon City this year. They also re-branded to Lucky Chan, a word play to actually connote “Laki Tiyan” (which means big tummy in Filipino). Foot traffic was good, but just as they were starting to build their customer base, they had to cease operations due to the challenges brought about by COVID-19.

But this pandemic is not stopping them from keeping to their promise of serving great tasting food for everyone, just as they would to their own families. They are now launching their easy Thaw, Heat, and Eat Home-Cooked Frozen Meals via Lucky Chan Home Kitchen. Their tandem is now back to where they began, sharing their passion for delicious home-cooked meals with everyone. They take pride in preparing meals just as how they would for their loved ones: with no fillers nor extenders.

THE FOOD

Currently, their newly launched Lucky Chan Home Kitchen is offering a menu consisting of four mouth-watering dishes, as can be seen on their menu below:

From their Twa Pak To to Lucky Chan days, I have always known them to be a restaurant who never scrimps on the ingredients. So I was giddy with excitement when they shared with me their newest creations, the Creamy Lengua Estofado and Three Cup Chicken (not on the menu yet, they only had a trial run for it previously).

The meals were delivered frozen, which kept the quality of the food intact. It’s actually a pretty straightforward way to be able to enjoy good food anytime, in the comfort of your home. If you’re ready to consume it, you may either thaw it for 2 hours at room temperature, or 24 hours in the chiller until no longer frozen. Then, you may reheat it on the pan or in the microwave. Simple, right?

THE VERDICT

We thought that the food quality might decline if we pan-heat it (we do not own a microwave oven as my mom thinks it’s unhealthy), but it surprisingly didn’t! It actually tastes like heartwarming freshly cooked meals. Here’s what I thought:

The Three Cup Chicken had fork-tender chicken cut ups cooked in the three key ingredients: sesame oil, rice wine, and soy sauce. It’s flavorful, and the sauce is already pretty tasty to pair with your steamed rice. I loved how the flavor really seeps into the meat of the chicken. People who enjoy flavorful viands will surely love this one. Keep an eye on their possible launch for this item, I promise it’ll be worth the wait!

On the other hand, their best-selling Creamy Lengua Estofado is truly a winner. The beef tongue was clean and tasty, without any foul odor or taste. The white cream sauce (with mushrooms!) is to die for, too! I also love how tender this is. Each order can serve 3-4 people, but in our case, my mom and I were able to split it for 3 meals. If I had a huge freezer, you’d probably see me hoarding and filling up my freezer with lots of this. It’s our favorite, and I can eat it all day and everyday, and never get tired of it! Highly recommended, this one’s truly delicious and filling.

Their meals are as authentic as they can be, priced just right, and would definitely make you want more. Their passion in cooking good food is evident, and you have to taste it to believe it.
